This work is the first extensive history of antisemitism, from antiquity to the 21st century, in Norwegian. Discusses the causes of Jew-hatred and describes its many manifestations in their historical contexts. Emphasizes the persistence of antisemitic themes under various guises: host desecration, blood libel accusations, the legend of the Wandering Jew, and conspiracy theories. Although a product of Christian European culture, antisemitism has undergone many transformations and cannot currently be viewed as either Christian or European. Ch. 15 (pp. 207-232) deals with the arrival of Jews to the kingdom of Denmark-Norway in the 17th- to mid-19th centuries, and the hardships and prejudices they encountered there. Ch. 25 (pp. 401-420), by Terje Emberland, deals with antisemitism in Norway between 1900-40.
